A legendary IPA born in the clouds

The re-creation of a classic

Perched dramatically atop the Ossipee Mountains in Moultonborough, N.H., the majestic Lucknow estate (better known today as Castle in the Clouds) has delivered stunning panoramic views of Lake Winnipesaukee for more than a century.

In the 1990s, owner J. Paul Sticht saw an opportunity in the rising craft beer wave. With access to some of the purest spring water on earth, he opened Lucknow Brewery directly on the historic grounds.

The flagship Lucknow IPA quickly became a visitor favorite — refreshing, balanced, and the perfect companion while soaking in those “in the clouds” mountain vistas.

The beer captured the spirit of the place: floral and citrus notes, herbal hop character, a touch of malt sweetness, and easy-drinking appeal that didn’t overwhelm the palate. It was a true Lakes Region original, brewed and enjoyed on-site amid the grandeur of the estate.

Thanks to a special collaboration with Twin Barns Brewing Company, this classic has been revived and is once again available for visitors to enjoy. You can find it flowing at both the brewery and the Carriage House Restaurant at the Castle, letting you sip a piece of history after hiking the trails, touring the mansion, or admiring the waterfalls.

Lucknow IPA is available all summer long at both locations.

Next time you’re boating on Winnipesaukee or driving the scenic roads, raise a glass of Lucknow to vintage New Hampshire charm. It’s the perfect way to connect your Lakes Region adventure with a story that literally sits above it all — where pure water, big views, and great beer come together.

Cheers to sunny days, mountaintop memories, and historic brews.
